About this service
Description
A permit granted by the Economic Development Centre is required for work that is carried out on a highway or in road areas or that requires traffic control and warning signs. A permit is also needed for placing constructions, structures and equipment in the road area. Non-recurring work, such as mechanical alterations for special transport or work related to the maintenance of cables and municipal engineering equipment, also require a work permit. A permit may be granted if the measure does not present a danger to traffic or impede road maintenance. The permit is included in permits the Economic Development Centre grants for signage and connecting private roads to highways and in decisions on siting permits for the placement of cables, wires and pipes in road areas. In these cases, you do not need to apply for a permit separately. The road area of a public road is primarily reserved for road maintenance purposes, taking into account essential equipment for society. When working in the road area, the perspective of permit processing is to enable road maintenance and ensure traffic safety. During the permit processing, an application distributed over a wide geographical area can be divided into several permit decisions. Similarly, applications can be combined if they involve similar work by the same applicant in a limited area. You can check the background information related to working on the road already in the planning phase from the Tiestötiedot map service of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. The Economic Development Centre checks the traffic control plan for the site and decides on setting a temporary speed limit. The Economic Development Centrecontact person also conducts a review of the terrain before work is started and after work has been completed, when needed.
