Published by: City of Helsinki, The Social Services, Health Care and Rescue Services Division · Municipality

About this service

Description

Access to social work services by child welfare is predicated on an assessment of the need for child welfare and special support, which discovers the need for child welfare social work. In child welfare, we primarily utilise support measures for open care. These include, for example, meetings with a social worker, enhanced family work and family rehabilitation. Child welfare is a last resort form of support for a child and their family, which is in question when preventive and social care services are not sufficient. In all child welfare activities, the best interests of the child are paramount. All children and young people who are customers of child welfare have their own social worker, whose task is to monitor their best interests. The social worker draws up a customer plan with the child, their network and loved ones. The plan records the support needs of the child and the family and the means to respond to them. They also monitor the effectiveness of support measures. In addition, the social worker is responsible for child welfare services and implementation methods for as long as the child is a customer of child welfare. They also support the parents, guardians and other people responsible for the care and upbringing of the child in their responsibility to care for the child. If the situation in the family is a serious threat to the child's health or development, the child may be placed in foster care for a short period of time as an urgent placement or for a longer period of time on the basis of a custodial decision. This service is free of charge. If you lose the contact details of your social worker, you can ask for them from the child welfare on-call service, tel. +358 9 310 62040 on weekdays at 8:15–16.

Children's homes

The lives of the children and young people at the children’s home are safe and as much as possible like their lives would be at home.

About this service

Description

The purpose of a children’s home is to secure the rehabilitative and age-appropriate development of children and young people in institutional care and provide them with a safe growth environment. A child can live in a children’s home for a short or longer period of time. The duration depends on each child’s needs and the family’s situation. We support contact and relationships between the children and their parents and other loved ones. Our staff ensure that the children’s home is a safe and comfortable place. There are always adults present for the children to turn to in any matters. Every child has a designated pair of personal instructors, who primarily care for the child’s affairs and provide support. The personal instructors ensure the children’s engagement and inclusion. They maintain regular contact with the children’s parents, loved ones and support network and provide their professional opinion on each child’s best interest. The aim is to raise the children together with their parents. We take care of the children’s basic needs and well-being, and make sure they have a regular daily rhythm, healthy meals and sufficient sleep. Where necessary, we provide the children with the support and services they need along with opportunities for hobbies and physical activities that interest them. We ensure that each child attends school and arrange any relevant support measures. Some of our children’s homes have a school attached. We also support the children in planning their further studies. At least every six months, we prepare a care and upbringing plan, which assesses the child’s needs, the objectives and methods of the care provided and the fulfilment of the care objectives. We then regularly assess the plan with the child and their parents or guardians and the child’s case social worker. The care and upbringing plan is also assessed when restrictions are imposed on a child or it is expected that restrictions will be required. Our staff includes many kinds of professionals, such as instructors who, by training, are bachelors of social services, community educators, practical nurses and nurses, for example. At least one psychologist works at each children’s home. The children’s homes can also have other special workers, such as an occupational therapist or psychotherapist. The other professionals who work at the children’s homes include cooks, home care instructors and office secretaries. The children’s homes of the City...

Conditions

Children of various ages live in children's home, when they, for one reason or another, cannot live at home with their parents. Cooperation with the social worker from the community care of child welfare services is required before the child can be placed into a children's home. The placement will be carried out when the support measures of community care are not sufficient in order to secure the safe growth and development of the child. The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.

Christmas tree permit

With the Christmas tree permit, you can chop down a Christmas tree from a state-owned forest in Lapland, North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.

Published by: Metsähallitus · Government organisation

Description language: English

Coverage: Finland, excluding Åland

About this service

Description

With the Christmas tree permit, you can chop down a Christmas tree from a state-owned forest in Lapland, North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu. The permits are freely available for purchase and limited to 5 permits per customer. If you wish to purchase more than 5 permits, please contact your local Metsätalous Oy forestry expert.

How to use it

Once you have made sure that the area you want to get your tree from meets the requirements, you can buy the Christmas tree permit from * The Eräluvat webshop: https://www.eraluvat.fi/en/natural-products/christmas-tree-permit * Science Centre Pilke (Ounasjoentie 6, 96200 Rovaniemi).

Conditions

Always make sure in advance that the area belongs to the multiple-use forests used for forestry by Metsähallitus and that there are no usage restrictions. The easiest way to check this is by ticking the box for the “Multiple-use forests” layer on the Excursionmap.fi map. To make sure the area is not subject to any other type of use, tick the boxes for the other layers (Sites of high natural value, Research and educational forests, Other special sites) and all the layers under "Protected areas and hiking destinations", as well. You can only get the tree from a multiple-use forest that is not in overlapping use with the "Multiple-use forests" layer. You cannot get a Christmas tree from * Protected areas or hiking destinations, or other areas in special use (map layers Protected areas and hiking destinations, Sites of high natural value, Research and educational forests, Other special sites) * Areas subject to other access restrictions. The access restrictions are indicated by signs, fences, or other obstacles. They are not always marked on the Excursion Map, but instead, they must be acknowledged at the site. With the permit, you can chop down a tree that meets these conditions: * The Christmas tree must be no taller than three metres. * In the municipalities of Enontekiö, Utsjoki and Inari, the tree must be a pine tree. * The tree must stand no more than 20 metres from a road. * The tree must stand on state-owned multiple-use forest land used for forestry purposes (check for any other restrictions)

Fee details

The price of the permit is EUR 10 (incl. VAT.).
