About this service
Description
Niuvanniemi Hospital's examination and treatment ward for minors who are particularly difficult to treat (NEVA) functions as an addition to municipal healthcare in situations where specialised medical care or child protection units have not been enough to secure the physical and mental well-being and safety of others and the minor in question. Minors are admitted to the ward according to a plan based on an urgency estimation. A doctor's referral is addressed primarily to the chief physician in charge of the ward. The referral must also include information regarding the initial duration of commitment of expenditure. The minor must have a valid order to be treated in a closed ward when they are admitted to NEVA ward. The treatment period at the Niuvaniemi Hospital NEVA ward lasts even over a year due to difficult-to-treat mental symptoms. Mental examinations of a minor offender ordered by the court and treatment of minors admitted to involuntary treatment by National Institute for Health and Welfare are conducted at NEVA ward.
