About this service
Description
By registering as a job seeker, you initiate your job search and your connection with the employment services in your area. As a job seeker, you can apply for unemployment benefits from Kela or your unemployment fund. The employment authority provides a statement to Kela or the unemployment fund regarding your situation.
The employment authority will advise and guide you in your job search and in selecting the right services. Your employment will be supported through an initial interview, an employment plan, and job search discussions.
Once you have registered as a job seeker, the employment authority will arrange an initial interview for you within five working days. During this interview, you will discuss with an expert what types of jobs you could apply for or whether you need training or a career change. The employment authority will also create an employment plan with you.
In job search discussions, you will regularly communicate with your local employment authority. Between discussions, you will independently search for jobs or participate in employment promoting services according to your employment plan.
How to use it
Register as a job seeker no later than your first day of unemployment or lay off.
If you have a Finnish personal identity number, start your job search through the Job Market Finland's E-services. You will receive guidance on using the online service from your local employment services.
If you do not have a Finnish personal identity number or cannot use the online service, please contact your local employment services.
Conditions
Registering as a job seeker online requires strong identification, such as online banking credentials, a mobile certificate, or an ID card with a chip. You will need a Finnish personal identity number to use the online service.
If you are not a Finnish citizen, you must have a valid residence permit and the right to work in Finland.
