About this service
Description
As the child's guardian, you can notify the child's native language or communication language. The data is entered in the Population Information System. ### Changing the native language You can change the child’s mother tongue recorded in the Population Information System. Only one native language can be entered into the Population Information System. ### Notification of communication language You can submit a communication language for the child if their native language is other than Finnish or Swedish. The communication language indicates which national language you want the authorities to use when contacting the child. The communication language can only be Finnish or Swedish.
How to use it
Report the child’s native language or communication language primarily by using the online form. If you cannot handle the matter online, fill in the PDF form and send it by secure email to vaestotiedot@dvv.fi. You can also send the form by post or bring it to one of Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s service locations. Attach the written consent of the other guardian to the notification. If the child is aged over 15, also attach their written consent to the notification. Please note that a child aged 15 or over can also submit their own details in the Suomi.fi web service if they have means of strong identification, such as online banking IDs.
Conditions
You will need consent from all the child’s guardians for the notification. If the child is aged over 15, the child must also give their consent.
