Description

There are differences in the range of services offered in senior centres. Still, our principle is the same: We provide our clients and residents with the tools and ingredients to lead a good and meaningful life. Senior centres offer 24-hour service housing, assessment and rehabilitation periods, day activities and service centre activities. Residents of 24-hour service housing live in senior centres and their associated service homes and group homes. We also provide institutional care as part of 24-hour care. The assessment and rehabilitation periods organised at senior centres support the functional ability of elderly people living at home and the resources of the relatives caring for them. The day activities of the senior centre are intended for elderly people living in their own homes. Service centres, on the other hand, offer, for example, hobby groups, events and social guidance for all pensioners and the unemployed. In addition, services of activity centres for informal care are provided at senior centres. Senior centres employ registered nurses, practical nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social instructors. There are ten senior centres in Helsinki. In the senior centres of Kivelä and Koskela, service is also available in Swedish. Service housing is a good option when, despite receiving in-home services, you find it challenging to continue living in your own home while maintaining your well-being. Our primary goal is to ensure your safety and enable you to fully enjoy life through our service housing. Service housing involves residing in a designated apartment within a service housing community, where you receive a range of services, including caregiving and meal assistance. We offer service housing in various settings, such as service housing groups, group homes, housing groups, and through purchased service units. Additionally, you have the option to apply for service housing using a service voucher. In the context of service housing, you will be responsible for covering the rent, apartment maintenance fees, and other daily living expenses, including medications and other necessary medical care services. Importantly, the assistance and support essential for addressing your disabilities are provided to you free of charge. The centre offers consultations and fixed-term investigation and treatment periods for patients with bipolar disorder, who receive psychiatric and substance abuse services as either outpatient or inpatient care. Description

The purpose of short-term care is to support the coping of family members and provide a child, young person or adult with disabilities with the opportunity to practise living outside their home. The objectives for your care period are determined together with you and the people close to you. We can also arrange short-term care for the duration of your informal caregiver’s leave or in various crises. This care can be provided in a housing unit or family care, for instance. For our adult clients, we offer short-term care at the Aurinkolahti, Hyvönen, Tilkka and Mansku Group Homes. An equivalent service is available for children at disability services’ Children’s House. Short-term care is generally subject to a fee. You can apply for the service through a disability services social worker working in your residential area.

About this service

Description

The need for the short-term placement of a child may arise if the parents cannot take care of the child due to, for example, acute mental health issues, an accident or substance abuse, or if the child has been mistreated or if the child engages in self-harming behaviour. Short-term placement of a child is based on the Child Welfare Act. A social worker makes the decision on the placement. In the short-term foster family or reception facility, children or young people are received safely, they get the care they need, and their situation is assessed. A child may also be placed with a relative or another person close to the child for a short period. The child, family and their loved ones, as well as the employees and authorities in their network, work together during the placement. The aim is to find the most suitable means of support and help for the child and family. The child can be received at the facility either as an urgent placement or through an open care support measure. During the short-term placement, the responsible social worker makes a decision, based on a joint assessment, whether the child will return to their home or be placed in longer-term care outside the home. If children or young people need longer-term placement, they are placed in a substitute care location that meets their needs.

Conditions

During office hours, the social worker responsible for the child and the client guidance social worker of the services will collaborate to determine a suitable placement unit for the child based on the available information. Outside office hours, the placement is carried out by emergency social services. Placement into an institution is possible if family care is unable to meet the child’s needs or no places are available. The social worker in charge of the placement makes the decision in accordance with Section 37 or Section 38 of the Child Welfare Act.

Description

People can have a wide variety of harmless moles, blotches and spots on their skin. Harmless moles are usually symmetrically shaped, evenly coloured and have clear borders. If you are worried about a mole or other skin change, you can send a photo to your team at your health station via Maisa. Based on the photo, a professional will assess whether booking a doctor’s appointment is needed. You can also book an appointment for a skin change examination by directly calling your health station or booking an appointment via Maisa. You can find the contact information of health stations at hel.fi/healthstations. A doctor can remove any suspicious small moles at the health station, while a biopsy is performed on larger moles for further examinations. Please note that we only remove moles at the health station for medical reasons, not for cosmetic reasons.

About this service

Description

The goal of sleep guidance is for the baby to learn to fall asleep and sleep at night without the constant help of an adult. We encourage parents to solve their baby's sleep issues with gentle home remedies. The sleep guidance groups are organised at playgrounds. The groups are guided by playground employees and social instructors for families with children. The group meets three times, approximately every two weeks. One group can accommodate 6–7 families. For more information about registration and the groups, please contact the playgrounds or social counselling for families with children. The service is free of charge.

Conditions

Families in which parents consider the "night life" of their 6-12-month-old baby problematic: the baby is difficult to put to bed, has trouble falling asleep or the baby wakes up several times a night.

Description

Social guidance for families with children provides guidance and advice for families with children under the age of 18. We support families in parenting challenges and matters related to upbringing or relationships with family members. Contact us when everyday life feels stressful and you want to discuss, for example, - the child or young person’s daily rhythm, sleeping, negative age stage, puberty or setting boundaries - concerns about the child or young person’s schooling or leisure time - parenting and your own well-being - any change in your life situation, such as a serious illness of a family member or the parents’ separation - services intended for families with children. A social instructor will meet your family at your home or another agreed-upon place. You will plan the number and content of the meetings together. If necessary, the instructor will cooperate with other workers supporting your family. Our services include work with Romani families and the Sleep guidance and Iloa varhain groups (‘Early Joy’) for families with babies. You can contact us in Maisa or by calling social guidance for families with children. If you send a message via Maisa, we will respond to you within three working days. If we cannot reach you by phone, we will send you a reply in Maisa. You can access social guidance for families with children by calling +358 9 310 15454 on weekdays from 9.00–12.00. Our service is also available in English. Service in Swedish is available at the same number on Mondays from 9.00–12.00. The service is voluntary and free of charge.

Their assistance encompasses a wide range of tasks, such as: Financial matters: Helping you with applications, rent-related issues, managing invoices, and establishing contact with a trustee if necessary. Official matters and errands: Assisting you in navigating official paperwork and handling various errands efficiently. Daily schedule planning: Aiding in organising your daily routine, making effective use of calendars to stay on top of commitments. Service applications: Guiding you through the application processes for work and day activities, personal assistance, home care, or pursuing educational opportunities. It's essential to note that social instructors do not have responsibilities related to medical treatment or care procedures. To access social guidance through a disability work social worker, you'll need to undergo an assessment meeting, during which your eligibility for these services will be determined. Subsequently, a client plan will be developed for you, and your appointments will be documented in the client information system. Our services are provided on a fixed-term basis, and while participation is voluntary, we encourage a high level of commitment. Our overarching objective is to enhance your self-reliance and overall well-being. We offer our services during office hours Mon–Fri 8.00–16.00. Our services are free of charge to you.
