About this service
Description
Youth work is a statutory duty of the municipality according to the Youth Act. In accordance with the Youth Act, the City of Vaasa creates conditions for youth work and independent activities of young people. Youth services provide services and facilities for young people under the age of 29 in Vaasa and support youth civic activities.
In the targeted youth work service unit, individual youth work is carried out, where young people are met, guided, and supported in outreach youth work, youth workshop activities, and youth information and counseling. Preventive work in the Anchor Team with young people showing signs of criminal behavior is one of the multidisciplinary forms of work in youth services. In youth workshop activities and outreach youth work, own service production is supplemented with purchased services.
Children's and young people's leisure activities are promoted in youth services, among other things, through musical youth work in the Rock School and through the Vaasa model for leisure activities. In addition, youth services organize targeted small group and camp activities for children and young people. Young people are encouraged and supported in organizing independent activities in various ways. Leisure activities are also carried out in cooperation with organizations.
In the community-based youth work service unit, community-based and societal youth work is carried out in seven youth centers, in schools and educational institutions, in digital environments, and in mobile youth work. Promoting youth participation and influence through the youth council and support for independent youth activities are important forms of community-based youth work. Youth services organize events aimed at young people in cooperation with young people and various organizations.
The activities of youth organizations are supported in youth services by distributing youth grants. The multidisciplinary guidance and service network functions as support for the multidisciplinary work in youth work. The activities of the multidisciplinary guidance and service network are defined in the Youth Act.
