Day Care at Home

Families can provide day care for their children themselves, or hire a caregiver with the help of child home care allowance (public or private).

Published by: The Municipality of Sipoo · Municipality

Description language: English

Coverage: Selected municipalities, regions or wellbeing services counties

About this service

Description

Families can provide day care for their own children, or hire a caregiver at home. Either one of the parents may receive child home care allowance and municipal day-care supplement to take care of children at their own home. Child home care allowance can be granted when a child under 3 years of age does not have a place in municipal early childhood education. Private day care allowance can be granted when a child under school age does not have a place in municipal early childhood education. Child home care allowance, private day care allowance, flexible care allowance and partial care allowance are different means of providing for families taking care of their children at home. Choice of the allowances above, as well as the amount of allowance granted, depend on for example the child’s age, who is taking care of the child and whether home care is carried out full-time or just some days of the week. Families may also hire a caregiver at home, alone or together with another family. ### Municipal Supplement in Sipoo (as of 1 August 2025) Families in Sipoo may receive a municipal supplement on the following conditions: * at least one child under the age of 3 must be eligible to home care allowance, * municipal supplement is not granted to families receiving some form of parental allowance * municipal supplement is paid for each child cared for at home * other children in the family can participate in early childhood education if the family so wishes ### Employer Families More than one family can act as an employer. In these cases, one of the adults is appointed responsible for employment duties. Parents may also employ a caregiver for the child via a company providing care services. In these cases, the family is eligible to tax credit for household expenses. Allowances are applied for at The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela).

How to use it

An ECEC expert will meet with the caregiver, or make a control visit at your chosen place of care (when the person is employed by several families). The expert will also sign an application for Kela, stating that you are eligible to receive allowance for home care of your child. After receiving the expert’s form, parents may apply for home care allowance or private day care allowance at Kela.

Conditions

The parents are to choose their child’s caregiver themselves. Please contact the municipality before you sign a contract with a caregiver. The municipality will control that the person is qualified.

Daycare Meals

The objective of meals served in ECEC is to guarantee that the children receive sufficient and balanced meal.

Published by: The Municipality of Sipoo · Municipality

Description language: English

Coverage: Selected municipalities, regions or wellbeing services counties

About this service

Description

The objective of meals served in ECEC is to guarantee that the children receive sufficient and balanced meals, and to steer the children towards adopting a well-balanced and varied diet. In addition to lunch, children attending daycare are also served breakfast and a light snack. Children in nonstandard hour care will also receive dinner and a light supper, as well as eventual meals on weekends.

How to use it

ECEC Special diet guide Children who require a special diet because of an illness will receive special meals in Sipoo ECEC. Any changes in the child’s diet are to be done in writing. This new certificate must thereafter be sent to both the central kitchen preparing the child’s meals, and to the day care facility to keep all parties informed. You may post the certificate directly to the central kitchen (the address is on the form), or to leave it at the day care facility, who will see to it that it is delivered to the correct central kitchen. The central kitchen will then inform your child's day care center’s kitchen staff of the changes. Food allergies are often alleviated as the child grows. In these cases, the restrictions can also be cancelled according to a doctor’s, a nutrition therapist’s or a public health nurse’s instructions. Special food products are bought via wholesale dealers and local grocery stores. We use these products when preparing the meals. However, guardians are responsible of acquiring other special products that a doctor or a public health nurse has orderer for the child’s care. Some examples of such products are goods bought at the pharmacy, and special food products that the kitchen’s wholesale dealers are unable to deliver. Children under 24 months of age will get infant formula when necessary. The same notification form is used to submit information of both food allergies and religious diets. We take your child’s dietary restrictions into consideration every day when preparing the meals. Thus, we wish you always remember to inform the day care center if your child is not able to attend the meals.

Conditions

In order to receive special diets for your child, you will need to present a public health nurse’s or a doctor’s certificate. The certificate needs to be signed by either a maternity clinic public health nurse or a doctor. Give the certificate to the ECEC staff at your child’s day care facility. As to religious dietary restrictions, a doctor’s or a public health nurse’s signature is not required. In these cases, the guardian’s signature is sufficient.

Fee details

Day care meals are a part of your child's ECEC, and they are included in the fee taken out for the care.

Voit perehtyä tarkemmin vaaleihin Kuntaliiton ja oikeusministeriön verkkosivuilla. Sipoon kunnassa vaaleista vastaava yhteyshenkilö on hallintopäällikkö. Äänioikeutettu henkilö, jonka kyky liikkua tai toimia on siinä määrin rajoittunut, ettei hän pääse äänestys- eikä ennakkoäänestyspaikkaan ilman kohtuuttomia vaikeuksia, saa äänestää ennakolta kotonaan siinä kunnassa, joka on merkitty äänioikeusrekisteriin hänen kotikunnakseen. Äänestäjän on ensisijaisesti käytettävä tavanomaista äänestysmuotoa.
