Description
Väestönsuojelun tarkoituksena on ihmisten ja omaisuuden suojaaminen poikkeusoloissa. Suojelua on myös poikkeustilanteisiin varautuminen. Väestönsuojelusta on säädetty pelastuslaissa.
Väestönsuojelusta vastaavat kunnassa pelastus-, terveys- ja muut tarvittavat viranomaiset. Kunnan tehtävänä on laatia eri toimialojen valmiussuunnitelmat ja rakentaa väestönsuojia. Väestönsuojelun tunnus on sininen tasasivuinen kolmio oranssilla pohjalla.
Väestönsuoja suojaa aseilta, rakennusten sortumilta, ionisoivalta säteilyltä ja myrkyllisiltä aineilta. Tilan tulee olla riittävän lämmin, ja siellä pitää olla riittävän hyvä hengitysilma ja hygieniavarustus.
