Description

Health examinations conducted by nurses comprise assessments of student health, growth and wellbeing and follow-up of earlier assessments. Nurses assess student wellbeing and living conditions by discussing with students their moods, adjustment to studies and to everyday life, and social contacts. They observe student strengths and resources, and they discuss matters typical of the age group including sexual health, questions concerning relations with the opposite sex, possible experiments with drugs and alcohol, and drug and alcohol use. Nurses examine the students' physical wellbeing. They measure the students' height and weight, assess growth and conduct interviews assessing possible physical or developmental problems; as necessary nurses consult doctors. It is important that the health examinations are conducted with view to further studies. Nurses check the students' vaccinations, vaccinate them as necessary and issue vaccination cards to the students. Nurses update student health and wellbeing plans and make further plans to promote student health and functional capacity. They note down matters not completed in the transition to upper grades and contact parents regarding matters to be monitored.

Home care helps you with daily activities such as getting out of bed, going to the toilet, bathing, dressing and eating. We also help with administering medication. We monitor your health on home visits. Home care can also include nursing services when ordered by a doctor if you cannot use other healthcare and nursing services. We can arrange regular home care on a daily basis, even at night. Part of home care is remote care, where we will contact you by phone or using a tablet. Remote connection allows us to check on you and remind you of important things. Your day-to-day care will be provided by practical nurses, public health nurses and registered nurses. Your well-being will also be taken care of by home care assistants, domestic helpers, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. You can also receive support services that complement your personal care, such as meal services. We will prepare an individual care and service plan for you. Home care can also be temporary, for example when recovering from an illness. Home care and its support services are subject to a fee. You can receive home care as a service provided by the City or as an outsourced service, in which case we have purchased the service from a private company. Home services for families with children support parenthood and the family’s daily life. The family workers of the home services help with childcare and upbringing, strengthening the family’s resources and housekeeping together with the parents, if necessary. You can be granted home services for families with children due to decreased functional ability or a difficult family or life situation. A need for the service might arise if – you need support in caring for and bringing up children – you need practical help to make your daily life run smoothly – you are worried about your own coping – a parent in the family is ill – you need childcare in order to take care of personal matters. The service is temporary and systematic. We will make a service plan with the family, the implementation of which we will regularly evaluate together with the parents. Home services for families with children will not be granted: - As a substitute for day care or after-school clubs - For the care of a sick child - Due to work or study commitments, including remote work - For cleaning or shopping services only - For child care during parents' shared time, hobbies, or driving lessons - To families receiving institutional care (e.g., mother-and-child homes or family rehabilitation) - When the child’s physical safety cannot be ensured during the service - If the parent has unused family carer leave, which must be used first - For home nursing or medical treatment needs - If there is a need for a personal assistant You can apply for the service in Maisa or by calling social counselling for families with children. In the group, you learn to identify your emotions and factors that affect your mood. You can build your own toolkit for preventing and relieving depression. In a group, you also have the opportunity to chat with people in the same type of life situation. The group will meet once a week for a total of eight times. The meetings last two hours each. There will be a follow-up meeting after the group meetings. A group consists of five mother and baby pairs. We will interview the mothers before the group starts. Description

Service centres have peer support groups for those providing care for a family member or loved one. In the peer support groups, you can discuss and share your thoughts in a confidential and safe atmosphere and receive valuable peer support, information and help in your everyday life. We will consider your wishes and needs. The groups are led by trained professionals or a peer instructor. Please ask the service centres’ social instructors about activities for informal care families and those providing care for a loved one. We will find the best activities for you together. Participation is free of charge. You need a service centre card to access the service. You can get a card free of charge from the service centres’ information desk.

Description

Informal care refers to the provision of care by a family member or other loved one to a person living with a disability or illness at home. The informal caregiver can be a family member of other loved one, chosen based on their health and functional capacity, to best meet the recipient’s needs. The informal care support includes the informal caregiver’s financial fee and statutory days off. You can apply for informal care support by filling in the application form. Your application must include a sufficiently detailed statement from a health care professional detailing the diagnosis, current state of health and functional capacity of the care recipient. Deliver the application to a unit of Services for People with Disabilities in your area of residence. After receiving the application and attachments, an informal care support social instructor will contact you to arrange a home visit. During the home visit, we will prepare a service plan for informal care support together with you and the person you are caring for. During the home visit, we assess the service needs of the adult being cared for. We determine how demanding and binding the care is, as well as how much supervision and guidance the person requires. Based on this assessment, we make a decision on whether to grant informal care support. For children under the age of 18, we prepare a care and service plan for informal care during the home visit. We also assess how the level of care and support the child needs differs from that of a healthy or non-disabled child of the same age. The decision on informal care support is based on both the assessment and the service plan.

About this service

Description

Informal care support includes a care allowance, statutory leave and other services. We grant informal care support when an older person needs daily care and attendance from a family member in order to be able to live at home. An informal caregiver can be a family member, relative or other close person. The informal caregiver must be sufficiently healthy and functional to be able to take care of the care receiver. The service needs assessment is based on the individual situation of the informal care family and the application submitted, a doctor’s medical opinion and a home visit. In our assessment, we consider the demands of the care, the commitment required, and the need for monitoring and guidance of the care receiver. We will make the decision on informal care support based on the assessment. You will receive the decision on informal care support in Maisa or by letter to your home. We will conclude an informal care agreement with the caregiver. - If you are interested in learning more about informal care support, please contact the Senior Info unit. - If you wish to assess whether you could receive informal care support, complete an assessment on your informal care situation in Omaolo. - If you wish to apply for informal care support, please fill in the application form on the Maisa client portal. Description

If necessary, we can support your coping by arranging discretionary care for your care recipient in a service housing unit. Such care can involve intensive 24-hour care or care where staff are not present at night. We can also support your coping by offering your care recipient day activities. Discretionary short-term care is applied for with the disability service application, which is delivered to a service point in your area of residence. Together with the care recipient and a social worker, you will assess the need for short-term care.

Description

The objective of informal carer coaching is to support the caring capabilities of a person about to become an informal carer. The coaching may focus on matters such as the informal carer’s position and well-being, as well as questions related to the co-operation between the municipality and the carer and, on the other hand, questions related to the basics of assistance and care work. (The coaching can be utilised to improve the quality of the care work and ensure that informal carers implement modes of operation that maintain and promote the care recipients’ ability to function.) The coaching of new informal carers under the age of 65 is carried out by informal care support workers of services for the disabled. Coaching courses are held 4–5 times a year, featuring varying themes such as relationships, peer support, social and health care services and the informal carer’s own coping. Participants are sent an invitation to the coaching courses and can sign up through their own informal care support worker. The municipality’s task is to arrange the coaching, whereby the coaching can be realised by another operator, such as an organisation.

Conditions

The municipality’s obligation to arrange coaching concerns informal carers who have made an informal care agreement, and the coaching is primarily targeted towards new informal carers.
