Description

The objective of informal carer coaching is to support the caring capabilities of a person about to become an informal carer. The coaching may focus on matters such as the informal carer’s position and well-being, as well as questions related to the co-operation between the municipality and the carer and, on the other hand, questions related to the basics of assistance and care work. (The coaching can be utilised to improve the quality of the care work and ensure that informal carers implement modes of operation that maintain and promote the care recipients’ ability to function.) The coaching of new informal carers under the age of 65 is carried out by informal care support workers of services for the disabled. Coaching courses are held 4–5 times a year, featuring varying themes such as relationships, peer support, social and health care services and the informal carer’s own coping. Participants are sent an invitation to the coaching courses and can sign up through their own informal care support worker. The municipality’s task is to arrange the coaching, whereby the coaching can be realised by another operator, such as an organisation.

Intensive service housing is intended for you if you need constant and 24-hour assistance in your daily activities due to a disability or illness. In 24-hour service housing, we offer care and activities that help maintain and promote your functional capacity. We can, for example, enjoy outdoor activities and exercise with you. Intensive service housing includes meals, laundry and clothes care, washing and cleaning services, as well as other necessary services. We offer intensive service housing in group homes and housing groups. You pay the rent and other costs of your daily life, such as medicines and other medical care services. However, the necessary assistance and support in housing due to your disability are free of charge to you. With parental consent, the child can be referred to us by a child health clinic’s nurse or doctor, for example. There are approximately 20 maternity and child health clinics in Helsinki, and you can choose to visit the one that suits you and your family best. All the clinics provide both maternity and child health services. At the maternity clinic, we monitor and support the health and well-being of the expectant mother, foetus and newborn baby. We support parents in changes in life following childbirth. At the child health clinic, we monitor and support the growth and development of children under school age and discuss any questions concerning the family. From the child health clinic, the child gets vaccines against severe diseases in accordance with the national vaccination programme. The clinic staff includes public health nurses and doctors. We cooperate with other social and health care professionals. Using the maternity and child health clinic services is voluntary. The service is free of charge.

We support the health and well-being of pregnant mothers, foetuses and newborn babies. We help parents prepare for childbirth and parenthood and support the overall health and well-being of the family. During your pregnancy, we offer you about 10 appointments with a public health nurse, and two with a doctor. The number of visits may vary depending on your individual needs. You can decide among the family who is to accompany you to the appointments. The nurse will carry out health examinations to monitor and examine your blood pressure, haemoglobin level, weight, any swelling or presence of sugar and protein in the urine. The nurse will also check the position, heartbeat and movement of the foetus. We will discuss your well-being and that of the family and any concerns you may have. We carry out a medical examination to determine illnesses, medications or other factors that may affect the course of the pregnancy. Additional medical examinations may be carried out if you have a long-term illness, for example. The service is free of charge.

We will instruct you to the correct place of care and also give advice on self-care. The service is open 24/7. Health care professionals answer your phone calls and consult a doctor, if needed. If the call cannot be answered at once, a call-back service is in use. If you have a referral to an emergency room, you can go direct to the emergency clinic. In life-threatening emergencies (e.g. hard chest pain, breathing problems, unconsciousness, stroke symptoms, convulsions) call 112 for help. The Medical Helpline number is 116 117 (free of charge). Do you have hearing or speech impairment? Do as follows: - Complete the appropriate symptom assessment in the Omaolo service. - Call the health station on a weekday with the help of an interpreter. Anyone can develop a substance addiction, and everyone can also recover from it. The Substance Abuse Outpatient Clinic's experience expert has has personal experience in dealing with substance abuse, recovering from it and different substance abuse services. You can discuss your concerns safely, anonymously and privately with an experience expert. You can get peer support and experience information on the activities of organisations, for example. The meeting does not bind you to anything and no entries will be made in the client or patient information systems. Each of our substance abuse outpatient clinics has one or more experience expert, as well as an experience expert for the next of kin who supports the loved ones of substance abusers. You can contact an experience expert at a low threshold by calling or texting the expert. Description

Our low-threshold Mental Health Service Unit Mieppi offers discussion support for promoting mental well-being. Mieppi serves all residents of Helsinki over the age of 13 and its services are free of charge. The Mieppi service units are located in Haaga, Kalasatama, Myllypuro and City Centre. You can visit any unit, regardless of where you live in Helsinki. Mieppi employs mental health professionals whom you can talk to in person or remotely, depending on your wishes. Contact Mieppi if you have concerns about your life situation or mental health and are looking for someone to talk to. In addition to discussion sessions, Mieppi also offers advice and service guidance. You can also contact us if you are worried about someone you care about. If your mother tongue is not Finnish or Swedish, we can make use of an interpreter. Mieppi services are free of charge. If you need urgent help, please contact the emergency services. Please note that we at Mieppi do not write prescriptions or sick notes.

Description

Mobility among the elderly is one of our key priorities for improving wellbeing and health. With the mobility agreement, we will account for your needs and make exercise a part of your everyday life. This will increase muscle strength and improve your balance and functional capacity. The goal of the mobility agreement is for everyone to be able to live a comfortable life according to their wishes now and in the future. Examples of what the agreement may cover: - Doing daily chores - Running errands and practising hobbies outside the home - Training to improve balance and muscle strength - Re-learning old skills. Our staff in hospitals, care units and home care will discuss mobility and prepare a mobility agreement with you. You can determine the goals yourself. The objectives agreed in the mobility agreement and their implementation will be recorded in your care plan, which will allow you to monitor the achievement of your goals. We will edit the mobility agreement together with you if your functional capacity changes.

The occupational therapist of the Disability Outpatient Clinic evaluates your functional capacity and need for rehabilitation and takes part in the preparation of your rehabilitation plan, if necessary. The occupational therapist is here to provide guidance and assistance whenever you require specialised support in activities such as self-care (e.g., dressing, eating), running errands (e.g., shopping), attending school, engaging in work, pursuing meaningful leisure activities, or simply relaxing and managing your time effectively. In addition, the occupational therapist is responsible for assessing the need for small assistive devices and apartment modifications. You can access the service through the telephone counselling of the Disability Outpatient Clinic. Our services are free of charge.
