You can apply for a grant from the Economic Development Centre to prevent damage caused by species protected under the Nature Conservation Act. You can also apply for compensation and support for damage caused by these species. Grant, compensation and support will be granted on a discretionary basis * to the prevention of damage caused by protected animals, * compensation for damage caused by protected animals, * supporting reindeer husbandry to compensate for the damage caused by the golden eagle to reindeer husbandry; and * support to fisheries based on the nesting of the osprey. You cannot apply for compensation to repair damage to buildings. For example damage caused to buildings by woodpeckers or bats is not covered. The compensation and support to be paid are based on the Act on the Prevention and Compensation of Damages Caused by Protected Animals. Decisions on grants, compensations and support are issued by the Economic Development Centre. Payments are processed by the KEHA Centre.

Apply for a grant, compensation and support, as well as their payment, primarily in the e-service. In the e-service, the application can be submitted by an authorised person. Persons without separate authorisation can act on behalf of an organisation if they have an existing mandate for transactions or a right based on register data. The e-service mandate theme is Applying for subsidies for employment, environment, business and transport. Authorisation follows the Suomi.fi e-Authorizations instructions. The grant for preventing damage caused by protected species was last applied for 17 October–1 December 2025. The next period will be at the end of 2026. For compensation for crop and animal damage caused by animals, first complete a damage report without delay. Then submit a separate application by year-end. Support related to golden eagle and osprey nesting is applied for annually by 31 October. ### How to apply for grant, compensation and support Apply for the grant, compensation and support primarily in the e-service.
