Child guidance and family counselling is provided to promote the wellbeing, individual growth and positive development of children and young people, to support parenting and to strengthen the functioning and resources of families with children. The service includes assessment, guidance, expert advice and other support related to the growth and development of children and young people, family life, relationships and social skills. Child guidance and family counselling is carried out in a multidisciplinary basis together with social work, psychology, medical and other professionals as necessary.
You can contact the service on your own initiative or through a referral from a cooperative partner. Your client relationship with us is voluntary, transparent and confidential. For child clients, the guardians’ approval is required and, as a rule, the parents must be committed to the work.
Child guidance and family counselling can provide support for a wide range of situations:
Parenting support focuses on strengthening the interaction and emotional relationship between the adult and the child/young person, the parent’s parenting and guidance skills and the cooperation between the parents in order to support the child’s development and wellbeing.
Support for families with infants and early interaction prevents child–parent interaction problems, supports parenthood and cooperation between the parents and promotes the positive psychological development of the baby. The work focuses on the barriers to parent–infant interaction, parental images, interaction behaviour and the interaction between family members.
We support the growth and development of children and young people primarily by providing parental counselling, guidance and, if necessary, therapeutic care. The aim is to bring the child and their qualities to the forefront. Your child can also receive individual psychological support, especially in crisis situations.
Support for couple relationships strengthens the relationship between the parents with the aim of promoting positive parenting and the wellbeing of the child and the family.
Support for family relationships improves the interaction and communication between family members and reinforces a positive family atmosphere. This includes psychological support for the child or young person, the parents and the entire family at different stages of a divorce.

Child guidance and family counselling is provided to children, young people and their families living in the wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava.
To receive the service, the parents and families must be willing to change their way of thinking and behaviour towards their family members. In addition, the family must be able to reflect on their own and their family members’ feelings, intentions and actions. The family must also be committed to doing homework and implementing a change plan in their everyday environment.
