Beskrivning
You can report suspected mistreatment of an animal by phone to the supervising veterinarian during office hours. Outside office hours and on weekends, contact the on-call veterinarian or the police in urgent animal welfare matters. You can also send a report by email to the supervising veterinarians of the Rovaniemi, Ranua, Pello, Ylitornio and Kolari areas. Animal welfare authorities are bound by confidentiality. They will treat your contact details confidentially and will not share them with the person you are reporting. Note! Barking dogs or other issues related to public order are not considered animal welfare matters. Noise from dogs or similar environmental disturbances usually do not fall under animal welfare legislation. Animal welfare inspection: Animal welfare authorities have the right to carry out an inspection if there is reason to suspect that an animal is being treated or cared for in violation of the Animal Welfare Act. Inspections are primarily conducted by the supervising veterinarian but can also be carried out by a municipal veterinarian, health inspector or the police. The resulting actions depend on the severity of the violations. Inspections based on suspicion are usually carried out without prior notice. The identity of the person who made the report will not be disclosed during the inspection. Authorities also carry out routine inspections not based on suspicion. These include regular inspections of professional animal facilities. Milk-producing farms are also subject to regular hygiene inspections under the Food Act, during which animal welfare is checked.
